What do I do?
Hello again.
Thank you for taking the time to keep reading my ramblings.
I've recently had some interactions with potential clients that lead me to believe I have been less than clear about what I actually do. Let's clear that up...
When I started my business, I wanted to focus on interior remodeling. Specifically, I wanted to design and kitchen and bath spaces. Some gaps in my schedule forced me to take on other remodeling jobs. I have done some decks/porches in composite decking, treated lumber, and mahogany. Some of those jobs were new construction, some were simply stripping off old decking and replacing, and others were jobs with structural repairs (due to rotting) and rebuilding delicate decorative trim work.
I have remodeled some bathrooms as well. Some have been crumbled plaster and lath which I have removed to insulate walls and install new sheetrock and fixtures and flooring. Others have been simply updating fixtures.
I have a little experience roofing, but I do not take on roofing jobs. I intentionally do not have "roofing insurance" as I would rather leave that to the many professionals in our area that have the experience necessary. And I am not a fan of heights, or summer heat on a sticky black roof.....
My favorite aspect of my job is kitchen design. At my last career I would approximate that I designed 100 kitchens. As my own boss, that number is certainly lower and may never reach that high. But I can spend the time necessary in order to create a space that my client has only dreamed of. Most of my clients are in their "forever home" and want something that is going to be functional and stand the test of time.
The above picture is something I was just playing around with for a future showroom / cooking class area. I like think of the kitchen more in individual work areas (baking, prep, eating, snacking, coffee bar, wet bar, cooking) than in the traditional "kitchen triangle."
So, in closing... I can and will do just about any remodeling job. What I will do is let you know if I can't do something and direct you to the proper experts. In our rural area you aren't required to be licensed to do contracting or electrical work or plumbing work. I do know my limits and am not afraid to voice those limits! My ultimate goal is to have a client that is completely satisfied with the project, even if that means I have to pass it along to someone with more expertise and appropriate licensure!
Thanks for reading!
Travis.
