What do I do?

Hello again. Thank you for taking the time to keep reading my ramblings.  I've recently had some interactions with potential clients that lead me to believe I have been less than clear about what I actually do. Let's clear that up... When I started my business, I wanted to focus on interior remodeling. Specifically, I wanted to design and kitchen and bath spaces. Some gaps in my schedule forced me to take on other remodeling jobs. I have done some decks/porches in composite decking, treated lumber, and mahogany. Some have been crumbled plaster and lath which I have removed to insulate walls and install new sheetrock and fixtures and flooring. Others have been simply updating fixtures.  I have a little experience roofing, but I...

The Other Half

If you had asked ten-year-old me what I was going to be when I grew up, I probably would have said "archaeologist." At some point shortly after, I watched a documentary on these individuals pulling themselves through a small tunnel to the main underground chamber of a pyramid, and I knew that it was NOT going to be me down there.      It took many twists and turns for me to figure out what was next. After all, teachers got summers off and banker's ho...

SFE is a multi-faceted business that includes my love for kitchen design (and other rooms...) and my experience remodeling client's homes.  I started out as many of you did, in a minimum wage job. In fact, I had many of them-from the local drug store to fast food. I worked a few different jobs through college, and when I ended up being forced to take a few semesters off (bad grades), I started working construction. I worked for a local contractor on a new home build and when that was finished he moved me to his furniture store to do the staining and finishing. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process from building the furniture to sanding and finishing it. Each piece had my fingerprint on it. After a while, things slowed down and I was forced to find other employment. I was fortunate to be hired at a local hardware store / lumberyard.  My work ethic (whi...
